Can Cell Phones Harm our Health Essay - 962 Words

Is there dangerous radiation coming from our cell phones? Over the past few years there has been concern about our health when it comes to cell phones. Some people say that cell phones are dangerous because there is harmful radiation coming from them. Others say that cell phones are safe. However, cell phones emit 900-1800 MHz radiofrequency electromagnetic fields during calls which effects the protein structures in mice and humans (Eid 573). Therefore, cell phones can be dangerous to humans. Most studies that show that there is no harmful effects from cell phone use are often industry funded (Gandhi 38). On the other hand, there are many studies that have been conducted that show that cell phones do correlate with harmful effects on the†¦show more content†¦According to the study â€Å"The thickness of the control group and the exposed group would be similar, but the recovery group would be off by a lot† (Eid). For example, â€Å"the mean thickness in sclera in the control group was 3.51+/-0.19, 3.55+/-0.55 in the exposed group, and only 0.69+/-0.19 in the recovery group† (Eid). Your sclera is the white of your eye and acts as the eye’s protective outer coat (Sclera). This means that the eyes of the newly born mice are becoming softer and less protective. This can be dangerous because the eye needs to be protected because it has many important fibers inside and seeing is an important part of life. Not only does the use of cell phones affect protein structures, but there is a possibility that they can also cause salivary gland tumors, impact male fertility, and cause leukemia (Gandhi 40-41). â€Å"An Israeli study found that there was a significant increase in the risk of developing parotid gland tumors, a tumor in the gland in the cheek below the ear† (Gandhi 40). Cell phones can affect male fertility if the phone is carried around in the male’s front pocket. â€Å"It significantly impairs sperm morphology, motility , viability, and count† (Gandhi 40). Not only does it affect the fertility, but it can also influence the wellbeing of the offspring. If the sperm gets genetically altered then that alteration can carry on into the embryo.
